Angelina Jolie, originally Angelina Jolie Voight (born on the 4th of June 1975 in Los Angeles, California) is an American actress, director, and producer best known for her sex appeal , as well as her humanitarian work. Jolie was awarded an Academy Award for her supporting performance as a psychiatrist in Girl, Interrupted (1999).Jolie, daughter of actor Jon Voight, spent much of her youth in New York before relocating to Los Angeles at age 11. She attended the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute for two years, and later enrolled in Beverly Hills High School. She then studied drama at New York University. She also performed in theater productions. She also did modeling and appeared in music videos. Jolie met Jonny Lee Miller (1996, divorced 1999). The film failed to find an audience, as did another series of films. However, in 1997 Jolie gained a lot of notice for her performance as the wife of Alabama's segregationist governor the film George Wallace, and she was later awarded an award called the Golden Globe Award for her performance. The following year she played a supermodel suffering from addiction issues in the HBO film Gia, a performance that won her several awards, including a Golden Globe and a Screen Actors Guild Award. She co-starred with John Cusack in Pushing Tin in 1999. The next year, she got married to Thornton (divorced in 2003). Jolie portrayed the carjacker's girlfriend (Nicolas Cage) in Gone in Sixty Seconds 2000. Then, she took on an accent that resembled a British accent and mastered street fighting and kickboxing in order to play the role of Lara Croft Tomb Raider 2001 and Lara Croft Tomb Raider The Cradle of Life 2003. In 2004 she portrayed the mother of Alexander the Great in Oliver Stone's Alexander and also played alongside Gwyneth Paltrow and Jude Law in Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow, a sci-fi thriller set in 1930s New York City. Both films were box-office failures however Jolie made a splash in Mr. & Mrs. Smith (2005) in which she played an assassin pretending to be an ordinary housewife. While making the film she met Brad Pitt, who became her partner.
